With the NBA on TNT enlisting fans to help in selecting their All Decade Top Performances, The Hoop Doctors thought it was the perfect time to announce our very own All Decade Award Winners. We will be honoring the decade’s best individual players, teams, and performances that were simply the best over the past 10 seasons(2000-2009). This will be a multi-part series with periodic entries showcasing this era’s top moments and players. Check back often for each new installment such as Franchise of the Decade, All Decade Teams by Position, Player of the Decade, and Dunk of the Decade.
Part Three – Dunk of the Decade
Everyone here at The Hoop Doctors loves a great rim rocking throwdown, especially if it includes one of the game’s superstars posterizing an opponent. To choose a single dunk over the last 10 year period was a daunting task just for the sheer volume of highlight reel jams to choose from. We think we have done an excellent job narrowing it down to the Top 5 with a few Honorable Mentions. Who will get the nod as having the top dunk of the decade? Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Lebron James, or a forgotten gem from early in the decade?
#5 – Shaquille O’Neal’s Alley-oop Dunk Over Rasheed Wallace(’00 Western Finals)
#4 – Dwyane Wade Posterization of Anderson Varejao(’09)
#3 – Lebron James Dunks on Tim Duncan(’06)
#2 – Kobe Bryant’s Behind the Back 360 Dunk on Nuggets(’07)
The Hoop Doctors Dunk of the Decade
It was tough not to choose Kobe’s amazing behind the back 360 dunk on poor Vincent Yarborough of the Nuggets, but our top choice is virtually as spectacular and came at a much more crucial time during the 2007 Western Conference Semi-Finals.
#1 – Baron Davis Posterizes AK-47(’07 Western Conf Playoffs)
Honorable Mention
Okay, okay, we know that the honorable mention didn’t take place in an NBA game, but instead took place in international competition, but still it was just too amazing not to take a look back on, so enjoy:
Vince Carter Dunks Over France’s Frederick Wiess(’00 Olympics)
