Well, in what is no surprise after leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to the best record in the NBA this year at 66-16, it is being reported this morning that by the end of today the NBA will be announcing Lebron James as the 2009 NBA MVP.
James has chosen to have the announcement at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron. All his Cavs teammates are expected to be there as well as representatives from Kia, which will give him a new car as part of the honor.
He will be the first Cav to win the honor in history and the second youngest ever to win the award behind Wes Unseld in 1969. James averaged 28.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.6 assists this season, his sixth in the NBA.
Lebron just had an unbelievable season statistically, but also it translated into wins for his team. This could be the first of many for this young superstar, as he seems to get better every year. Just when you think he’s reached his potential, he shatters his old records and numbers.
I think it’s extremely cool that Lebron has chosen to go back to his roots and have the award presented to him at his old high school. This recognition at the highest level in the world as the most valuable player, is certainly something Cleveland and all of Ohio can cheer about. And, if the Cavaliers keep playing as well as they did in the first round, they may have a championship to cheer about soon too!
Lebron James, congrats young fella, you certainly deserve it. Here is a little treat for you from the NBA. Enjoy the highlights:
