Sneak-a-Peek: Nike Air Penny 5 – ‘Orlando’

May 17, 2012 – Ben Berry

Penny’s back.

While the only times you’ll see Anfernee Hardaway playing ball under bright lights will be in things like charity games or with other celebs, Nike has decided to revive the Air Penny signature line with the Air Penny 5.

Its only right that one of the first colorways being released pays homage to the Orlando Magic. An exposed carbon fiber & Air unit, icy sole, and 1Cent branding are present on this new model and the great execution makes it a worthy addition to the Air Penny series.

Foamposite popularity is at an all-time high which helps keep Penny’s name in the minds of the younger generation and the Air Penny 5 looks to make sure you remember the name (word to Fort Minor).

Nike LeBron 9 – ‘Employee of the Month’

May 15, 2012 – Ben Berry

LeBron James has been awarded the Most Valuable Player award for the

Following in form like a lot of other LeBron 9s, this MVP edition featured a speckled midsole in the colors of white and red. A red-to-black gradient is used from the outside in on the Flywire panels with black making up the mesh seen on the outer. The insoles highlight the other two MVP awards LBJ has won throughout his career so far and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more to come. This pair hooks up perfect with all the Miami Heat apparel anyone could possible have.

If LeBron James were to capture the NBA Finals MVP award as well, I’d be willing to bet that the LeBron 9 Elite would be the model of choice used on a commemorative sneaker. Where do you think this edition would’ve ranked on our list of the 9 best LeBron 9 colorways? Let us know in the comment box below.

Nike Hyperfuse 2012 – ‘South Beach’

April 11, 2012 – Ben Berry

Another South Beach sneaker by Nike?

Not quite but the latest sneaker in the Zoom Hyperfuse series could easily be given the ‘South Beach’ label due to the resemblence it has with the LeBron 8 (or Air Max 95 depending who you ask) that made the blue-and-pink colorway popular. On this early sample we see that grey mesh is used and fused with a blue skin and an pink skin ontop of that for the branding. The wooden imagery seen on other Nike basketball sneakers has carried over onto this sneaker as well and runs even through the upper.

The Hyperfuse series is one of my favorites from Nike ever since its inception in 2010 and has had its technology branch off into other basketball lines from the Swoosh. Expect to see this model debut in team-specific colors during the NBA Playoffs on the feet of flagship Hyperfuse players Rajon Rondo and Russell Westbrook.

Nike LeBron 9 Elite – ‘South Beach’ Release Info

March 30, 2012 – Ben Berry

‘South Beach’ LeBrons part deux.

Even though the colorcode on this LeBron 9 Elite reads Wolf Grey/Mint Candy-New Green-Pink Flash and not Retro/Black-Pink Flash-Filiment Green like the ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8 V1 did last year, that won’t spot most people from giving this pair the ‘South Beach’ nickname.

There are plenty of advancements the Elite LeBron 9 boasts that its regular-season counterpart doesn’t but that spec list would take up an entire post so for now just admire the pictures.

The LeBron 9 Elite ‘South Beach’ is scheduled to be in stores on June 2 and will retail for $250.

Sneak-a-Peek: Air Jordan IV – ‘Knicks’

February 15, 2012 – Ben Berry

Do not adjust your screen or hit the ‘back’ button, you are actually on The Hoop Doctors and we only report the most authentic of sneaker news over here!

I feel the need to say that first because this pair definitely looks like something you’d find on Canal St due to its non-Chicago feel but the word is the Jordan IV will drop in this very Knicks colorway. If you follow our Kicks section you know that because the Jordan IV was used as the Air Jordan for 2011′s Doernbecher campaign that 2012 would be chalk full of the Air Jordan IV.

The Black/Orange Blaze-Old Royal colorcode which will undoubtedly be known as the ‘Knicks’ Jordan IV and there is no word yet on when this will drop but if I had to guess I would expect a summertime release. Look for Spike Lee to be the first to wear it in public and for release info here when made available.

If you don’t want to wait head over to MentalKicks to grab a pair early.
