Report: Rondo Wants to Start Season With Celtics, Then See How It Goes

rondobosotnvlRecent reports that Rajon Rondo is demanding a trade at the final hour before training camp begins appear to be false. New reports coming out of the Celtics camp have Rondo telling the organization he wants to start the season optimistically with the team, then assess if he wants to be there long term or not….

That said, the idea that he would demand a trade at this point is a bit of a head-scratcher. Why now, on the eve of training camp, rather than at the start of the summer, when teams had money to spend and would have been more eager to get something done?

Multiple league sources have repeatedly said that Rondo wants to start the season in Boston and see where things go from there. A similar sentiment has trickled out of Celtics camp, as well.

Rondo is hopeful that the team Danny Ainge is assembling around him is better than most anticipate, that they can be this season’s feel-good story not only in the East but throughout the NBA. (Source)

Although Rondo saying he wants to start the season in Boston is better than the talented PG forcing a trade at this stage in season preparations, isn’t it still a bit selfish and a distraction for the team? Basically he’s putting the team and his teammates on notice that if they don’t play well and surprise people in the Eastern Conference, he’ll be out of there before the trade deadline. That’s a lot to hang over your teammates heads and still expect a positive team chemistry.
