Report: Steve Kerr Signs 5-Year $25M Deal to Coach Golden State Warriors

kerrwarriorsorthIt has been a busy couple of days for Steve Kerr as he’s been at the center of a tug of war between the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors to take on their head coaching vacancies.

News is breaking that Kerr has made his decision and has signed a 5-Year, $25M deal with the Golden State Warriors.

We are shocked given how far a long the discussions got with the New York Knicks, especially given Kerr’s close relationship with his former coach during his championship years in Chicago, Phil Jackson. As his first major order of business in his new front office role with the Knicks, Jackson will likely be moving quickly to close a deal with his second option.

Kerr is seen by the Warriors as the perfect fit given their long-range shooting game, led by Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Kerr himself was one of the most efficient sharp shooters in the NBA for many years, and has a championship pedigree he can leverage to gain the players respect. Kerr also has a number of years playing closely with Michael Jordan, which is seen as valuable insight into the work ethic, routine, and mindset of the greatest player to step on the court.

Kerr’s family lives in San Diego which may have been a factor in turning down the offers to relocate to New York City.
