Nets May Look to Trade Deron Williams

Sacramento Kings v Brooklyn NetsEven though the Nets swept the Heat during the regular season, Miami disposed of Brooklyn rather easily in the second round. So what does that mean for the Nets now? They were built specifically to make a run this year. Granted, losing Brook Lopez early on in the season didn’t help.

One player who has fallen out of the graces of NBA fans at large has been Deron Williams. He went from being regarded as arguably the best PG in the league to a forgotten man. The Nets will reportedly look to trade him and his remaining $63 million. Easier said then done, but he definitely has game left in the tank.

There is an alternative, sources say, the Nets will not rule out: They could look to trade Williams this summer, retool around (Joe) Johnson and (Brook) Lopez, squeeze one more run out of Pierce and Garnett and hope for the best.

It’s hard to say what the Nets might get for a 29-year-old former All-Star with bad ankles and $63 million left on his contract, but it’s worth exploring. The Houston Rockets tried to acquire Williams last December, so it’s not inconceivable that another team desperate for point-guard help might inquire.
