‘Sneak-A-Peek’ Nike KD Trey 5 II

Signature basketball sneakers have always been good business ever since the days of Walt Fraiser and the suede Puma Clyde. Fast forward to the end of 2013 and hoop kicks made for a specific player are priced at an all-time high.

Having a similar look to the current shoe Kevin Durant is wearing in the NBA, the Nike KD VI, the upcoming KD Trey 5 II is the second sneaker in Durant’s takedown line that was previously sold exclusively in Asia. Sneaker technology is up-to-date with Zoom Air, Flywire cables, and a triple-layer upper with mesh present; features seen in many of the top-tier Nike Basketball sneakers. Standard in many China-exclusive basketball sneakers that the Swoosh makes is the XDR bottom which is made from a stronger-than-usual rubber compound to prevent thread wear and provide the strength desired in outdoor basketball.

A vigilant eye would spot in the background of one of these pictures the latest iteration of a Hyperposite sneaker releasing next year can be seen leaving the door open for the new Nike KD Trey 5 II to release stateside next year.

In a landscape of signature basketball sneakers with a MSRP of well over $100, it is good to see a shoe with a big name such as Kevin Durant be a high quality product at a significant price reduction. Hearing that the Zoom LeBron Ambassador VII and Kobe Venomenon 4 are both getting US releases for the first time in both Asia-exclusive series further supports the second sneaker in Kevin Durant’s takedown series will release over here as well.
