Phil Jackson to Executive Produce TV Show

Last week it was reported that LeBron James would serve as executive producer of a new television show. When the lines sport and entertainment so blurred, I guess this isn’t such a big deal. Especially given the magnitude of his power. But how about Phil Jackson?

Jackson and fiancee Jeanie Buss, along with Kurt Rambis, are reportedly set to serve as executive producers of a new Showtime drama. That’s only fitting, since what tranpired with him and the Lakers over the last 12 months or so has been drama.

According to Nellie Andreeva of Deadline.com, television network Showtime is “developing a one-hour scripted drama set behind the scenes of a pro basketball team and the family that runs it.”

Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis are behind the project through their production company, Street Reason Entertainment.  Former Lakers coach Phil Jackson and current assistant coach Kurt Rambis will also reportedly be listed as executive producers.

Writer-director Ron Shelton (“Bull Durham,” “White Men Can’t Jump”) will write and run the project.

Although the real-life drama of the Lakers is typically found on the court or in the locker room, the Showtime story will focus behind the scenes in the front office.
