Wizards Ink John Wall to 5-Year, $80 Million Max Extension

Often times in the NBA, players aren’t worth the contracts they are given, but based on the current situation of the team, it becomes necessary. That may be the case with John Wall of the Wizards.

Washington officially inked their point man to a max deal of $80 million over 5-years. Wall hasn’t exactly lived up to what many thought he would’ve been, but the majority of his career is still in front of him and he’s only three years in. If the second half of last season is any indication, he’s just hitting his stride. Not to mention the fact that he’s only 22.

John Wall, the foundation of the Washington Wizards’ rebuilding efforts for the past three years, has signed a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.

According to a league source with knowledge of the situation, the deal is worth approximately $80 million over five years and will kick in at the start of the 2014-15 season. The agreement will keep the point guard within the Wizards organization through 2019, when Wall will be 28.
