Tom Thibodeau hasn’t been an NBA head coach for that long, but he’s certainly very respected around the league. Playing without Derrick Rose all season long, the Bulls were still plenty competitive.
Thibodeau has made such an impression that he has been asked to join the Team USA coaching staff. Tom will also be joined by Pelicans head coach Monty Williams.
A person with knowledge of the details says Tom Thibodeau and Monty Williams will join the returning Jim Boeheim as assistant coaches for the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team.
Thibodeau and Williams will work the next three years under coach Mike Krzyzewski. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the hirings were to be announced later Monday.
