Bobcats Hire Lakers Assistant Steve Clifford as Head Coach

The Charlotte Bobcats fired Mike Dunlap not long after their season ended, after just one year on the job. I’m not sure what the expectations were of Dunlap given the roster and the fact that he was only given a year.

Their coaching search has ended as Charlotte has hired Lakers assistant Steve Clifford. In an interesting twist, Patrick Ewing (who interviewed for this job last year and did not get it) will be brought on as an assistant coach. Interesting dynamic to say the least.

The Charlotte Bobcats have reached an agreement in principle with Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Steve Clifford as their new head coach, a person familiar with the deal told USA TODAY Sports.

It is a two-year deal with a team option for a third year. It is worth $6 million if he is there for all three years.
