No offense Chris Bosh, but the Raptors may have just landed their first true ‘franchise’ player since Vince Carter, today. Sources of both ESPN and Yahoo! Sports are reporting that the Grizzlies, Raptors, and Pistons have agreed in principle to a three team trade that will the much sought after Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors. Here are some of the details emerging so far:
The Grizzlies receive point guard Jose Calderon as part of the deal, and will route Calderon’s $10.5 million expiring contract to the Detroit Pistons for a package that includes forwards Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye, league sources told Y! Sports. The Raptors also sent forward Ed Davis and a second-round pick to the Grizzlies. Memphis sent center Hamed Haddadi to the Raptors.
The Raptors had an extremely slow start to the season, then had a terrific win streak, and are now once again on the losing end 7 of their last 10 games. But with that said, if Rudy Gay can turn this team around quickly, the good news is the Raps are still only 5.5 games out of the last playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
Is the addition of Rudy Gay and big man Hamed Haddadi enough to make the Raptors a playoff team in the East this year?
