Video: Indiana Recruit’s Forehead Assist

March 21, 2012 – Allen Moll

The Indiana Hoosiers under Coach Tom Crean have undergone quite the transformation from Big Ten cellar dwellers, following the Bob Knight era, to NCAA Tourney Sweet 16 participants this season.

A big part of Crean’s success has been recruiting. Two seasons ago, he brought in super 6th man Will Sheehy and dazzling dunker Victor Oladipo. In 2011, the Hoosiers were lucky enough to secure the services of 7 footer Cody Zeller, who promptly turned Indiana into a winning program capable of making a deep post-season run.

While we don’t know just how far this year’s roster can go without the injured Verdell Jones III, next season should be even better with another infusion of fabulous freshmen like PG Yogi Ferrell, PF Hanner Parea, and SF Jeremy Hollowell, all ranked among the Top 100 players in the country.

Speaking of their top recruit Ferrell, the McDonalds All American recently pulled off one of the most unbelievable assists I’ve ever seen in attempting to lead his Park Tudor HS(Ind) to a 2A Indiana State Title. The elite level point guard is ranked among the Top 30 players in the nation and is capable of doing big things next year in Bloomington.

In a state semifinal Playoff game, the highlight reel floor general did the worst thing a PG can do…..leave his feet before deciding whether to pass or shoot the ball. But with little to no option, other than turning the ball over, Ferrell took the liberty of bouncing the ball off of an opponent’s forehead, to serve up a sweet assist to teammate Trevon Bluiett positioned under the basket.

For the record, Ferrell’s either lucky or clever assist helped Park Tudor to a victory over Providence HS(Ind) 62-49, to advance further towards an Indiana State crown.
