Derrick Williams “Are You From Here” UA Spot

December 5, 2011 – Allen Moll

With the NBA Lockout all but over, Under Armour’s new viral marketing campaign for their newest hoops apparel and shoe line has been in high gear since around Thanksgiving. The catchy and creative “Are You From Here” ads feature budding NBA superstars Brandon Jennings, Greivis Vasquez, and flashy rookies Kemba Walker and Derrick Williams.

Third year Milwaukee Bucks’ point guard Brandon Jennings is the focus of the new ad campaign, with new shoes coming out periodically to signify a stop in his basketball journey that took him from downtown LA, overseas to Italy, before making it to the NBA.

Jennings and the rest of the Under Armour roster have been traveling the country playing in scrimmages against some of the top legendary HS programs like Rice HS in NYC and Roman Catholic in Philly. The first stop on the tour began at Boys and Girls HS in Brooklyn, NY in early November.

The “Are You From Here” campaign focuses on each player’s origin and their journeys to professional ball. Jennings’ commercial was the initial installment, with Walker’s spot following two weeks later.

Now, it’s apparently #2 overall NBA Draft pick Derrick Williams’ turn as his very own Under Armour commercial debuted a few days ago, with the 2 minute piece focusing on his rather difficult path from not being heavily recruited in high school, struggling as a collegiate freshman, to being told he is too small to play PF in the NBA.
