Nate Robinson’s Son Is a Football Prodigy

September 14, 2011 – Allen Moll

Every father who has a child participating in youth sports knows all about that proud feeling when their child makes a key basket on the hardwood, gets an important hit on the diamond, or catches a touchdown pass on the gridiron. It’s a feeling like no other and is one of the perks of fatherhood.

Recently, former 3 time NBA Slam Dunk Champ Nate Robinson undoubtedly had the pleasure of experiencing that feel good emotion of being a proud papa when watching his 6 year old son Nahmier continually leveling his peers on the football field. Nahmier, just like his father, is a pint sized powerhouse of a player. Word is that the 6 year old is already making his mark in the 7-8 year old pee wee league back home in Washington.

Seeing his son succeed on the field must be great for Nate since his own professional hoops career has steadily been in decline since the ’08-’09 season when he established career highs with marks of 17.2 ppg, 4.1 assists, and 1.3 steals. After only 26 games into the following season, coach D’Antoni grew tired of Robinson’s immature antics, like shooting the ball in the wrong basket, and helped get Nate traded to Boston where he spent a season and a half as Rajon Rondo’s back-up at the point. Then last season, the Celtics sent him at the trade deadline to the OKC Thunder as a throw-in in the Kendrick Perkins for Jeff Green deal. Robinson appeared in only 4 games with the Thunder, seeing his numbers drop to a dreadful 3.3 ppg.

When the NBA went into official Lockout Mode, Nate gave a thought to trying out for an NFL team, since he was once a star running back for the University of Washington during his college days.

But just like his former Celtic teammate Glen “Big Baby” Davis, who also dreams of playing in the NFL someday, Nate probably is best suited staying put on the hardwood. For now, he’s taken to YouTube to star in his very own web series titled State of Nate.
