Most Valuable Player

Lebron James

 

The race to the MVP is a tight one, which players like Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony contesting the reigning NBA MVP, Lebron James. So far this season, Lebron James has managed to fill up his stat sheet, averaging approximately 30 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, and 30 minutes, despite his team’s decline compared to last year.

Defensive Player of the Year

Dwight Howard

 

The nearly uncontested Dwight Howard takes the cake for Mid-Season Defensive Player award. His 13 rebounds a game has his name at the top of the league’s rebounding leaders and his 2.5 blocks a game also top the game’s best blockers. His team, the Orlando Magic, give up just 96.53 points a game which is 7th best in the league.

Rookie of the Year

Tyreke Evans

 

Tyreke Evans is not only a candidate for Rookie of the Year but also an MVP candidate for some. His 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists a game in his rookie season put him with names like Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, and Lebron James.

Carl Landry

 

Carl Landry has been a surprise to Rockets fans. With the injury to Yao Ming, Carl Landry has made the best of the extra minutes he’s getting. Coming off the bench, Carl has averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds in 25 minutes and has been a key factor in the Rocket’s lineup.

Most Improved Player

Gilbert Arenas

 

After a disappointing season last year in which Gilbert saw action in just 2 games due to injury, the 2003 Most Improved Player of the Year looks like a sure candidate to win the award once again. Averaging 36 minutes a game to go along with 22 points and 7 assists, Gilbert Arenas’ comeback season has earned him the Mid-Season Most Improved Player award.
