He’s Back! Allen Iverson Agrees to Deal with Philadelphia 76ers

Well that didn’t take long to hear those words, did it? Allen Iverson is back in the NBA as of today, he has agreed in principle to a one year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. Although the details of the contract haven’t been disclosed, we assume the Sixers got him on the cheap, paying only the veteran premium. Not bad for a player that is only a couple years removed from being one of the top scorers in the league, is a former league MVP, and is a ten time all-star.
Iverson was drafted first overall by the 76ers in 1996 and it looks like he will be closing out his career in the same city where it got started. The Hoop Doctors have not been shy about our love for AI, and we hope this time around he plays by the rules, and shows all his critics that he’s still one of the most dominant offensive forces in the game. Philly fans, get ready for AI squared once again. Iguodala and Iverson will be back at it.
Here is what ESPN had to say about it in breaking the news today:
Allen Iverson informed the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday morning that he will accept their one-year, non-guaranteed offer. Iverson is expected to make his debut Monday against the Denver Nuggets.
The team did not disclose contract details. If Iverson received the pro-rated veteran’s minimum, the deal would be worth $1,029,794. He could get the full veteran’s minimum of $1,306,455 if the Sixers signed him with the mid-level or $1.99 million contract exception.
“In light of the recent injury to Lou Williams, which will sideline him for close to eight weeks, we felt that Allen was the best available free agent guard to help us at this time,” team president Ed Stefanski said.
