And don't forget, people, Isaiah played with two sore hamstrings. He had the right one wrapped up. But when trainers touched his left hammy, he would wince. So much of it is about how badly you want it. Play through the pain. Like Jack Lambert playing on a broken leg.

Demolished? NO WAY! They got swept, losing even with Magic playing game 1 and most of game 2. It may have gone 6 or 7 games, but the Pistons had home court, the hunger and talent to win it. It was their time. Besides, Johnson and Scott should've tried to play. Scott was supposed to be out only 2 games. I think they saw it was lost after game 2, then hoped the rest of the team could pull out a game or two. It reminds me of the '87 finals. The Celtics were better imo, but injuries killed them in the finals. The bench had missed so many games during the season, that by the finals, the starters had logged way more minutes than they should have. Sichting, Walton & Wedman all missed significant time. In the finals, Walton played a scant few minutes, after winning 6th man the year before, Wedman was out, but that wasn't the biggest blow. McHale played the whole finals with a broken foot. He had great stats on offense and the boards, but it clearly slowed him down on defense, esp. against Worthy.

How is it Riley's fault that they got hurt? David Rivers grabbed Scott's arm going for a rebound in practice, and he was off balance when he landed. That could've happened any time. He should've got on the court and played some. And Magic should've tried harder, too. I think they didn't want to face the Pistons again, and used the injuries as a excuse. They knew they got were very fortunate to win the title the year before (though I know they Pistons got robbed at the end of game 6 and should've won it that night). Plus, Magic had his 5 titles. It was enough. Other guys have sucked it up and played hurt, and played well. McHale played the whole '87 finals with a broken foot. He said it hurt all the time, but he knew he had to man up, and he did. Which is more than I can say for Bill "Dr. Scholls" Walton.

I remember this series well. It is too bad that Magic and Scott were injured, thus robbing the Pistons of some of their real glory. Even against a heatlhy Lakers team, Detroit would have won in 6 games. They were that good.

Agreed. But I'm also in the camp that WITH Magic and B Scott, that Laker team would have demolished the Pistons. LA was undefeated in the playoffs that year until both those dudes got injured in practice prior to the Finals. I blame Riley.

The Pistons will never get their full due in '89 because of the Magic, Byron Scott injury...

I think its one of the things people always point to when talking about the Bad Boys...the decline of the Celtics being the other one...

But really, sans the Phantom foul in '88, this was a three-peat team

And a damn good one at that

Great series fellas
