Breaking News: Richard Jefferson Traded to Spurs

Chad Ford of ESPN during his live webchat today released a bit of breaking news he received from a GM (which one was not communicated) that a deal is imminent and closing between the San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks involving Richard Jefferson as the key piece.
The trade is Richard Jefferson to the Spurs for Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas … more coming in just a second. Deal is agreed to in principle with a trade call coming later today…
Bowen, Oberto and Thomas are all in the last year of their contracts. It saves them roughly $3 million this year and $15 million next year. And it gives them some flexibility to sign at least one of their restricted free agents — either Charlie Villanueva or Ramon Sessions….
Guys you’re going to have to give me a few minutes … ESPN needs a few more details.Yes, it’s a great deal for the Spurs, but don’t kill the Bucks either. This gives them lots of flexibility going forward.
Stay tuned for more details as the deal is finalized…

Very impressive deal. It makes the Bucks playoff contenders, but it makes the Spurs title contenders again. Even more to give Kobe and the Lakers something to think about. If Ginobli and Duncan return healthy, I like the Spurs as second best in the West after this deal.
@Vis – agree with you brah. The Spurs get a lot younger and more athletic which has been there downfall finally this season (especially without Manu).
The Bucks get a wider base of veteran experience and key role players, as well as financial relief.
I personally think the Spurs made out like a bandit in this one. Although the Bucks get some cap space, realistically the vaunted 2010 Free Agent class will not look at the Bucks as a destination especially if money is involved. After all, their own teams can offer the most money. As for the Spurs, I agree they get that much needed athletic swingman, they can address their bench in the draft and/or other shrewd moves, they only lost some key fixtures but cap friendly over the hill players, and gained a perfect fit for their team.
