American Idol Winner Kris Allen to Sing Anthem at NBA Finals

Kris Allen NBA

June 5, 2009 – Dr. Browntorious

The NBA has invited the 2009 American Idol Winner, Kris Allen, to sing the national anthem before Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Kris Allen was recently voted in as the American Idol champion over the flamboyant Adam Lambert. Allen is probably most remembered for his personal rendition on acoustic guitar of Heartless by Kanye West.

Game 2 is set to air this Sunday, June 7th, on ABC at 8:00 p.m. If any of you out there are Idol fans, you’ll be happy to know that Kris Allen plans to do his own rendition of the U.S. national anthem, and ABC will be showing his performance promptly at 8. The NBA in the past has worked with other American Idol winners for NBA Finals and All-star Game performances, including Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, and most recently David Cook at last year’s NBA Finals.

Tune in early so you don’t miss Allen’s performance or the pre-game analysis. I’m counting down the days. Here is Allen’s rendition of Heartless on Acoustic:
