Video: History of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest

November 6, 2008 – Dr. J-Water
There is nothing fans and players look forward to more at All-Star Weekend than the NBA Slam Dunk Competition. The chance to see the most athletic, high flier’s in the league battle to prove they are the most athletic and innovative dunker in the pro’s. I’ve watched many many dunk contest’s and have strong opinions as to what I believe are the greatest of all-time. MJ vs. Dominique, the Spud Webb Win, the Vince Carter Win, the Dwight Howard Superman….all would be among them.
But wait, those early contests are getting a little fuzzy now. What is the significance of that first one 32 years back in 1976 with Dr. J. Should one of those Dr. J dunk contest wins in Denver along the way have been in my top 3 or 4 of all-time? Check out this cool throwback video of the start of the NBA dunk contests in 1976 and how Dr. J helped to make it the exciting event it is today for all fans.
