Caldwell-Pope Released, Can Travel With Lakers Again

It has been a rough month for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

The Lakers swingman has spent the past three and a half weeks in a police detention center in Seal Beach, California, because of a DUI case in Michigan last March.

He has been able to play and practice with the Lakers when they are in Los Angeles, but he has not been allowed to travel with the team which has placed a large strain on the team and contributed to their recent struggles.

According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, Caldwell-Pope’s nightmare is almost over:

“Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is being released from the Seal Beach Detention Center on Monday morning and would be permitted to travel with the team outside of California, league sources tell ESPN…

Sources say he will no longer be on probation and will have no restrictions on his driver’s license.”

This could give a slight morale boost for a Lakers team that had lost nine games in a row before defeating the Atlanta Hawks at home on Sunday night, 132-113.

Caldwell-Pope has seen his numbers decrease across the board since being able to participate in his last road game on December 12.

The Lakers do not possess their 2018 1st round pick, giving them zero motivation to be at the bottom of the western conference, they are hoping Kentavious’s full return can help turn things around.
