Ginobili to Return for 16th NBA Season

While many thought the hall of fame caliber (you can debate it but he will be inducted) career of Manu Ginobili came to an end in Game 4 of the western conference finals in May when Gregg Popovich paid his respects to Ginobili by starting him and the whole arena had the feel of a send-off, Ginobili has decided to come back for a 16th NBA season.

Ginobili turns 40 on July 28, he will join Vince Carter as the first players to play in the NBA in their 40’s since Grant Hill and Kurt Thomas in the 2012-13 season.

Manu is clearly not the player he was even three years ago, but he still can give the Spurs another high I.Q. passer and ball-handler with catch-and-shoot ability along with the obvious benefit of his leadership and status as a winner for the past 15 years in the NBA.

Details haven’t yet come out about the terms of the contract, but one can assume it will be close to the veteran’s minimum for one season.

Ginobili and Carter both appear to have the ability to have the most success and court time for any NBA players in their 40s in the past decade or so for the 2017-18 season.

It is always fun to get to see a generational player and legend for a franchise extending his career a little longer.
