DeAndre Jordan Thinking About Participating in NBA’s Slam Dunk Contest

DeAndre Jordan is already headed to New Orleans for the NBA’s 2017 All-Star on Feb. 19. He might as well participate in Saturday night’s Slam Dunk Contest as well, right?

That’s exactly what Jordan appears to be thinking. Maybe. We think. Actually, we can’t be sure about anything.

But Jordan is thinking about accepting the NBA’s invite to the jam fest, per Clippers.com’s Rowan Kavner:

If the NBA has its way, they could see Jordan in the dunk contest for the first time, as well.

“I’m interested,” Jordan said. “They’ve reached out to me about it. I have yet to say anything, because I’m trying to negotiate something with them right now.”

Jordan couldn’t help but offer a humorous explanation, squirming out of answering firmly whether or not he’ll be participating in this year’s dunk contest.

“Like, if I do the dunk contest, then they got to let me do the 3-point competition, something like that – or the skills challenge,” Jordan said. “It’s crazy, because they don’t know, like, I’m a pretty good passer. I got dimes. I’m pretty sure I could make that layup. I don’t know about that free-throw you got to shoot.”

It would be truly interesting to see Jordan partake in the dunking soiree. At 28 years old, he is now in his ninth season. You don’t really see established veterans accept such an offer anymore.

Maybe Deandre Jordan could start a trend, one that gives longstanding stars in the thick of their primes a reason to embrace the dunk competition, rather than viewing it as something that can only harm their reputation.

Keep your fingers crossed, y’all.
