Pat Riley on Wade: “Players Come and Go”

pat riley wade

Rumor has it Pat Riley never spoke to Dwyane Wade during free agency, so Wade, feeling unappreciated, called Riley’s bluff and signed a 2-year deal with the Bulls. Reports indicate Riley was in shock by Wade’s move, assuming he’d want to finish his career where it started. But it’s tough to blame Wade after never being the highest paid player on the Heat.

As the start of training camp nears, it will be interesting to see the Heat without LeBron, Wade and possibly Bosh, as he still recovers. But Pat Riley is ready to move from the Wade era, and he expressed as much somewhat dismissively of Dwyane.

“No apologies, no regrets – except for one – no tears,” Riley told me (Thursday), obviously referring to losing franchise icon Dwyane Wade to the Chicago Bulls. “Good luck. We move on. Players come and go, but franchises move on.”
