Spurs Reportedly Plan to Chase Mike Conley in Free Agency

Mike Conley
As of this writing, the San Antonio Spurs’ season has been over for roughly 12 hours, following their bizarre, and disturbing, Game 6 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

And they apparently already have a plan to get back on top.

No, it’s not Kevin Durant.

It’s Mike Conley, according to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein:

The Spurs can carve out max cap space fairly easily. But while it makes sense for them to cut bait with Boris Diaw, expect Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili to opt (or retire), and then trade Danny Green, said scenario doesn’t add up when you plug in Mike Conley. The Spurs would, in all likelihood, need to part ways with Tony Parker to make room for Mike Conley, unless they’re really not enamored with hanging onto Danny Green.

It’s clearly still early in the offseason, and the Spurs will likely be in a holding pattern until Durant makes his decision. But with the Thunder having bounced the Spurs from the playoffs, it feels more and more likely that Durant will join the Golden State Warriors or stick with Oklahoma City. So San Antonio needs to start coming up with contingency plans, albeit preferably ones that make more sense than Conley.
