Miami Heat ‘Fear’ Chris Bosh Won’t Be Cleared to Play Basketball Again

Chris Bosh
After missing the latter half of the 2015-16 season, like he did in 2014-15, with another blood clot issue, Chris Bosh’s future in the NBA appears to be in jeopardy.

From ESPN.com’s Brian Windhorst:

Between now and this fall, Chris Bosh and the Heat are going to have to reach a decision about what to do about his future. And there may end up being a complex and gut-wrenching disconnect between heart and mind.

There is a fear within the Heat organization that Bosh’s condition will prevent him from ever being cleared to play by team doctors, several sources said. It’s a result of exhaustive consultations with specialists. Something this big and delicate, the sides have gone deep attempting to understand all the options.

It’s forced everyone to confront the possibility of Bosh ultimately being forced into a medical retirement.

This is just awful news. Bosh is 32 and has three years left on his current deal. Even though he has talked about retiring early in the past, this is too early. More than that, it’s not on his own terms, making it that much more bittersweet.

But, at the same time, Bosh’s long-term health, off the basketball court, in everyday life, is more important than his NBA career. Confronting the possibility that he may never play in the NBA again sucks. It’s awful. But he has a wife and kids and decades on decades of his life left to live.

That this situation is so dire blow. There’s no way around it.

That the Miami Heat and Chris Bosh appear to be treating it as such, though, means the best decision for Bosh’s life, whatever it is, however painful it seems, will ultimately be made. And that, while beyond bittersweet, isn’t a bad thing.
