Bickerstaff

J.B. Bickerstaff took over for Kevin McHale in November after McHale was fired in the first week of the season. Bickerstaff was able to guide the team to a playoff birth despite a tumultuous season. But a first round exit at the hands of the Warriors has the team on summer vacation, and management looking for a new head coach.

Bickerstaff was supposed to be in consideration for the head coaching job into next season, but in a surprise move, he has decided to withdraw his name from consideration. This has be to embarrassing for the Rockets, who has somehow become a punchline across the league. However, there have been some pretty high-profile names rumored to be in line for consideration, such as Jeff Van Gundy.

After a meeting with ownership and the front office on Monday, Houston Rockets interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff has informed team officials he’s no longer a candidate for the head-coaching job, league sources told The Vertical.

The Rockets are beginning to line up candidates in what promises to be a wide-ranging search, league sources told The Vertical.
