Adam Silver: NC Laws Must Change to Keep All-Star Game

All-Star Game

The 2017 NBA all-star weekend is supposed to go down in Charlotte, but that may be in jeopardy. The Hornets were awarded this honor roughly a year ago, but Adam Silver is threatening pulling the plug in light of the news surrounding the state of North Carolina and the LGBT laws.

A move would cause a logistical nightmare for the league for sure, but apparently Silver is prepared to take that on in the face of doing what he feels is right for the league.

Silver isn’t the only one to speak up about this. Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy also said as much several weeks back. During his brief tenure as NBA commissioner, when Adam Silver talks about something, action isn’t far behind so smart money is on this not just being a bluff.

Commissioner Adam Silver believes the NBA has been “crystal clear” that the 2017 All-Star Game only stays in Charlotte if a North Carolina law goes.

“The sense was that if the NBA could give us some time, they in the community of North Carolina were optimistic they would see a change in the law. They weren’t guaranteeing it and I think which was why my response was the event still is 10 months from now, we don’t need to make a decision yet,” Silver said Thursday during a meeting of Associated Press Sports Editors.
