Walt Frazier Explains How He Would’ve Slowed Down Steph Curry

It’s no secret that former players take offense when people even hint that the current crop of NBA players are better than they were. That’s why so many are quick to denounce what Steph Curry does on the court. Oscar Robertson made it seem simple to stop a guy with that kind of range, and today, Walt “Clyde” Frazier made it seem easy as well.

Walt Frazier was a guest on ESPN’s Mike and Mike and explained how he would prevent Curry from shooting 3s. In Clyde’s defense, he didn’t necessarily say he’d shut Curry down and he did at least offer up a specific strategy.

“Defense was my forte,” Frazier said Thursday during an interview on ESPN’s “Mike & Mike” show. “I had to guard Oscar (Robertson). I had to guard Jerry West, Earl the Pearl (Monroe), Dave Bing. Any phenomenal player, I had to guard. So when I’m guarding these guys, I’m trying to take away what they do best.

“So today if I’m guarding Curry … he might have 25 2s on me, but he’s not going to have 13 threes because I’m going to be forcing him inside of the arc.”
