Jimmy Butler Tops MJ With 42 Points In One Half

Jimmy Butler continues to mold himself into a top tier player in the NBA and establish himself as the Bulls go to player.

Butler scored an incredible 42 points in the second half of the Bulls 115-113 win over the Raptors on Sunday, breaking Michael Jordan’s franchise record for points in a half which was 39 against the Bucks on February 16, 1989.

Any time you can top any of His Airness’s records you know you are doing something special.

Butler had only two points on one of four shooting in the first half before exploding for 42 points in the second half on 14 of 19 shooting from the field and 10 of 11 shooting from the free throw line.

This is the fifth time a player has scored at least 40 points in a half in the past decade here are the other four:

Deron Williams, 2012
Brandon Jennings, 2009
Michael Redd, 2006
Kobe Bryant, 2006.

Klay Thompson incredibly had 37 points in a quarter against the Kings last season but sat most of the fourth quarter of that game and finished with 39 points in the 2nd half.

Butler is averaging 21.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals in 37.8 minutes per game for the Bulls.
