DeMarcus Cousins has Expanded his Game

Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins, or “Boogie” as he is affectionately referred, has continued to be a dominant force in the paint for the Sacramento Kings this season averaging 27 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and a block in eight games for the Kings.

He has also continued to display his ornery and moody disposition, as well as reportedly cussing out George Karl in front of the team last week.

What has changed about Cousins game though is his surprisingly expanded range.

Cousins is 14 of 34 from three point range this season, good for 41%.

In his first five seasons in the NBA, Cousins was only 11 for 69 from three point range which is only 16%. He had never made more than four three-pointers in a season.

Cousins has worked the pick and pop into his game with point guards Rajon Rondo and Darren Collison and is making just under two three-pointers per game (1.8 to be exact) in just over four attempts (4.3).

Although taking a monster offensive rebounder away from the glass and the paint may not be the most efficient use of Cousin’s rare talents, the idea of an already dominant 6’11” 270 lb All-Star caliber center who can also step out and hit threes and now is integrating pump fakes and drives to the bucket from the arc, is a extremely scary thought and makes Cousins even more of a matchup nightmare for opposing teams.

Now only if Cousins could only get his attitude in check and play with full effort and passion at all times, he could be a top 5 player in the entire league.
