Steph on Warriors: There Is No Championship Hangover For Us

Stephen Curry is thorough.

Just in case you couldn’t tell by the Golden State Warriors’ history-making 16-0 start to the season, Curry would like to spell it out for you: This team is not yet fully satisfied, not after winning a championship this season, not even after becoming the first NBA squad to begin the year 16-0.

From CSNBayArea.com’s Monte Poole:

“There is no championship hangover for us,” Steph Curry said. “We’re trying to get better and we’re focused. We’re staying in the moment, so we feel like if we come to play every night, we should be in good shape.

“We know there are 66 games left, but we have taken care of every objective so far and we have to keep that going.”

Warriors general manager Bob Myers would go on to echo Curry’s sentiments:

“We’re still looking big picture,” he said. “Even though this is maybe a present moment, we’re still focused on the macro issues. I don’t know that we’re doing anything only for The Streak. We shouldn’t be.”

This is what makes these Warriors so special. It wasn’t exactly business as usual following their 111-67 shellacking of the lowly Los(t) Angeles Lakers, but you were never overly aware that the Warriors made history.

Not that this is surprising. That’s been the Warriors’ modus operandi all season. They have been able to sustain superior drive despite already being hailed as champions and one of the best teams ever.

Whatever drives them, be it their obsession with catching and surpassing the 1995-96 Bulls, their desire to go down as not just a great team, but a dynasty, or their ability to channel offseason slights from Kyrie Irving, Doc Rivers, James Harden and Ty Lawson into competitive fuel, it doesn’t matter. It’s working.

The Warriors aren’t just as good as they were last season. They’re better. Scarier. More focused. So no, there is no championship hangover in store for them. They’re above it.

Historically great teams with dynastic potential usually are.
