Watch: UNC’s JP Tokoto’s Vicious Posterization Of UAB Defender

jp tokoto dunk rt float 1For a majority of college hoops fans, the 2014-2015 NCAA season was supposed to be a comeback season for the University of North Carolina Tarheels.

Following making back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in 2011 and 2012, the Tarheels have struggled to return to elite status the past 2 seasons, finishing a disappointing 3rd in the ACC Conference.

Underwhelming development of top tier HS recruits like James Micheal McAdoo and seeing promising upperclassmen like PJ Hairston ruled ineligible due to off the court incidents have definitely derailed UNC’s progress since winning their last NCAA Title back in 2009.

But behind arguably one of the most deep and talented rosters in the college ranks, featuring players like Marcus Paige, Kennedy Meeks, Brice Johnson, JP Tokoto, and star frosh Justin Jackson, coach Roy Williams was a preseason Top 10 team in the National polls.

But it has been a struggle early on for those wearing Carolina Blue, as the team has lost 3 games in the non-conference slate, albeit to good teams like Kentucky, Butler, and Iowa, as preseason All American Marcus Paige has struggled to regain his form from last season, averaging just 13.6 ppg.

The Tarheels are a respectable 9-3, and ranked #20 in the polls, but as the ACC portion of the schedule is set to begin, they will need more production from upperclassmen like Tokoto, Johnson, Isaiah Hicks, and Paige.

Over the weekend, UNC steamrolled the UAB Blazers 89-58, behind Paige’s 16 and Justin Jackson’s 13 points, but it was the highlight reel facial dunk by junior forward JP Tokoto that had the homecourt fans abuzz early in the 2nd half.

If you remember, Tokoto was once one of the nation’s prized incoming freshmen back in 2012, touted for his insane athleticism and dunking prowess, as he was even compared to former Tarheel players like Vince Carter and Jerry Stackhouse.

Tokoto only has 2 points in the roll over the Blazers, I’m sure UAB will remember this total destruction of the rim….
