Rondo, KG, Pierce and Perkins Have Group Text

pierceTeammates who won an NBA championship are forever linked to one another.

Not to mention forever texting one another.

Paul Pierce revealed that he, Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins, who all won a 2008 title with the Celtics, still talk frequently, specifically within a group text message that, given no other context, is clearly the best thing ever.

From MassLive’s Jay King:

You probably weren’t wondering. But in case you were, yes. Several Boston Celtics from the 2008 championship team still have a text message group.

Paul Pierce said he, Kevin Garnett, Glen Davis, Kendrick Perkins and Rajon Rondo all communicate regularly.

“We all group text at least once a week,” Pierce said.

What they group text about, I have no idea. All four are on different teams these days. Rondo is the only one left on the Celtics, Garnett is speeding toward the end of his career in Brooklyn, Perkins is still toiling away in Oklahoma City and Pierce himself has moved on to Washington.

It’s sort of surreal knowing they all four play on different squads now. It always seemed like at least two of them would stay together. Rondo, Pierce and Garnett played six seasons together in Boston. When they were finally split up, both Garnett and Pierce wound in up Brooklyn, where it seemed as if they would finish their days. But Pierce left in free agency and, now, a group text message is clearly necessary if they wish to keep in touch.

As for speculating on what they talk about, here are a few ideas:

1. Rondo’s latest ball-fake.
2. Garnett’s pet Bobcat.
3. Perkins’ favorite viral Instagram photos/videos.
4. Pierce’s most recent chest pound.
5. Doc Rivers’ raspy voice replacing the singer of a top-40 song.
6. Whether or not the 2008 Larry O’Brien Trophy was heavy.
7. The weather in Moscow.
8. Garnett’s pet’s Bobcat’s latest unchained foray into Carmelo Anthony’s New York penthouse.
9. Rondo’s previous Connect Four tournament, in which first place received a lifetime supply of Skittles.
10. Pierce’s sweet tooth.

Anyhow, it’s good to know these former teammates can keep in touch. Players need friends once they retire, lest they get lonely. One day Pierce will need peeps to play shuffleboard with; Garnett will need a posse to trash talk with at the local Y; Perkins will need people to take bingo-night selfies with; and Rondo, sometime in the distant future, will need a crew to help him leave flaming paper bags filled with dog ejecta on Kris Humphries’ doorstep.
