Carmelo Anthony Had Been Fasting For 15 Days

After some spotty shooting in the Knicks’ win against the New Orleans, Carmelo Anthony had an explanation for reporters:

“It’s a long story. I haven’t had a good meal in about 2 1/2 weeks. No meats, no carbs, anything like that. I don’t know how I was going through competing at a high level. Just sometimes these past three, four games where the body just feels depleted out there and just trying to find a way to get energy. But like I said, I surrender. I’m done. I’m going to get some food right now.”

Anthony had been undergoing a fast for the last 15 days. Evidently, this isn’t the first time the Knicks’ all-star forward has sworn away meats and carbs:

“I usually do it sometimes just to get some clarity in my life,” Anthony said. “Spiritual reasons. I’m done now. I can’t do it no more.”

Whatever the reason, Anthony fast seemed to visibly affect his performance on the court. Outside of his lacking figures in the last couple of contests, he seemed to lack the energy he’d been showing for the majority of the season to this point. This year has seen Anthony really get after it on the defensive end (a welcomed change, I’m sure). During his 15-day period of fast, the energy just wasn’t there.

There’s very little wrong with a man just looking for some sort of “clarity” in his life. Nonetheless, he’s a professional athlete in perhaps the game’s highest-pressure city.
