Allen Iverson Gets Contract Offer From Indoor Soccer Team

This is not a joke. And as far as we know, Iverson has not played any competitive soccer in his past. The Rochester Lancers, of the Metropolitan Indoor Soccer League, a top level of pro indoor soccer league, today announced a contract offer to former NBA star, Allen Iverson. Can we say publicity stunt?

The Rochester Lancers host two remaining regular season home games to conclude their season. The offer stands at $20,000 per game, with a bonus of $5,000 per goal scored, win bonuses, and merchandise bonuses. There are over 12 goals scored on average per game.

“Allen Iverson is one of the premier athletes of our time,” said Rich Randall, Vice President of the Rochester Lancers. “With his athleticism and competitive hunger, I think he can be a great fit with our team and fans as we make an important playoff push, while also driving interest to an exciting, growing sport.”

We have all heard about Iverson’s current financial woes. With bankruptcy knocking at his door, and no NBA team willing to take a chance on the HOF superstar, will Iverson take this opportunity to stay stateside? He has offers on the table to play basketball overseas that will get him out of his current financial situation, owing over $850,000 to payback a jewelry debt. With the courts ordering garnishing of his wages until the debt is paid, will Iverson say yes to the indoor soccer club knowing full well it’s a publicity stunt to increase the popularity of their sport and team? We’ll keep you posted…
