Penny Debuts New Sneaker In Charity Game

August 15, 2011 – Ben Berry

Success with hybrid sneakers is something that the Air Jordan line doesn’t achieve too often, but Penny Hardaway might have finally found a niche in the market that Michael Jordan may never get to. Following the success of the Half Cent, another Hardaway-inspired sneaker is scheduled for release sometime this fall called the Zoom Rookie LWP.

While the Half Cent was made with different elements of the Air Penny 1, 2, 3, and Foamposite One, Nike’s newest hybrid sneaker takes that favored Foamposite material and has its silhouette derived from the Flight One and the Air Go LWP; two sneakers that aren’t apart of Hardaway’s “1 Cent” series but both are shoes that Penny was known to be in.

Even though the shoe was yet to be released, images of a few colorways have made their way around the internet which could only help the buzz grow around this shoe. Here we seen Penny himself lacing up the Zoom Rookie LWP in a never-before-seen all-red colorway for the Tournament of the Stars Basketball Classic which is in its’ 17th year. His team, the Memphis Express, won all their games Saturday before winning the whole thing on Sunday. Other notable players in attendance this year were Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis, TJ Ford, James Harden, and Paul Millsap.
