“It was a Crab Dribble” – The Debate Rages On…

Lebron James Dribble

January 7, 2009 – Dr. Browntorious

“Two days after he was surprisingly whistled for traveling in the closing seconds of Cleveland’s 80-77 loss at Washington, James maintains his “crab dribble” was legal and that he has no plans to remove it from his arsenal.”

In this ESPN article yesterday, Lebron James is quoted even further as saying that most of the people in sports center discussing it have never even touched a basketball so they wouldn’t know the difference. I’d have to agree with him for the most part, but as you can see in the following videos Caron Butler and Antawn Jamieson would disagree with his stance. Then again they were the players who benefited from the call, so maybe not a relevant source.

Personally my take is this: The ‘crab dribble’ actually is a travel. But Lebron is right in saying that it is rarely ever called. So is it still a travel? I know this sounds odd but think about Policing for a second to get the answer to all this mess. If the posted speed limit is 40 mph, and the police don’t pull anyone over for doing anything less than 50 mph, what is the speed limit? Is it 40 or is it 50 mph?

Or think about drug trafficking. If the police say they won’t arrest anyone with over a certain amount of weed on them, are those people possessing under that amount still breaking the law? If the law still says that having any weed is illegal?

Anyways, just my take and some food for thought. Enjoy the videos with Lebron, Caron, and Antawn’s take on the matter:
